LegalPrivacy Policy
TownStakes is operated by [OWNER NAME], St. Clair, Michigan ("TownStakes," "we," "us"). This policy explains what information the TownStakes app and website collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.
The short version
- We collect what you need to run your campaign's sign work: your email, your campaign's signs and notes, and anything your team adds.
- Your campaign's data, including any voter list, is private to your campaign.
- We use your location only while the app is open, to place signs and show you on the map.
- We don't show ads, sell data, or track you across other apps or websites.
- You can delete your account in the app at any time.
Your account
To sign in, we collect:
- Your email address. We email you a one-time sign-in code. These emails are sent through our email provider, Resend.
- Google sign-in (optional). If you choose to sign in with Google, we receive your email address and basic profile from Google to create your account.
- Your display name, which your teammates see in the app.
Campaign data you enter
When you and your team use TownStakes, we store what you add so your whole team can see it:
- Sign locations (GPS coordinates or a spot you tapped on the map) and addresses
- Host names, notes and photos
- Opponent signs and hot spots you mark
- Team chat messages
- Sign assignments and alerts
This information belongs to your campaign. Only members of that campaign can see it, according to their role (owner, manager, volunteer or view-only).
Location
TownStakes uses your device's location only while the app is open, to drop a sign where you're standing and to show where you are on the map. We don't track your location in the background, and we never sell location data.
You can turn location off in your device settings and still place signs by tapping the map.
Voter lists
A campaign may upload its own Qualified Voter File (the list of registered voters from a city, township or county clerk). If it does:
- The list is private to that campaign.
- Volunteers see voters' names and addresses. Birth year and voting history are visible only to the campaign's owners and managers.
- TownStakes does not sell or share voter lists, and does not combine one campaign's list with another's.
- If a campaign buys the $49 voter file setup, TownStakes requests the file from the clerk on the campaign's behalf and loads it only into that campaign.
- Campaigns are responsible for following their clerk's rules on how a voter file may be used.
A campaign owner can remove the voter list from the campaign at any time.
Public map data we look up
To show maps, property information and traffic counts, the app looks things up from these public sources:
- St. Clair, Macomb and Oakland County, Michigan parcel maps (property owner or tax-exempt status, and lot lines)
- Michigan Department of Transportation traffic counts
- U.S. Census Bureau road map (road names for traffic counts)
- OpenStreetMap (street map)
- Esri (satellite imagery)
To do these lookups, an address or map coordinates are sent to those services.
If you tap Street View on a sign, spot or lot, Google Maps opens at that location, and that location is sent to Google. Google's own privacy policy applies there.
Service providers
We use these companies to run TownStakes. They process data for us and only as needed to provide their service:
- Supabase: database, file storage (such as photos) and sign-in. Data is stored in the United States.
- Cloudflare: hosting for the app and website.
- Resend: sending sign-in emails.
- Map tile providers (OpenStreetMap and Esri): map and satellite images.
Storage on your device
The app saves a copy of your campaign's data on your device so you can keep working without a signal. It syncs with our servers when you're back online.
Keeping and deleting data
- You can delete your account in the app: Setup → Delete my account.
- If you run a campaign alone, deleting your account deletes that campaign and all of its data.
- If your campaign has a team, the campaign passes to the next manager, and your account is removed from it.
- A campaign owner can remove the voter list at any time.
What we never do
- No advertising.
- No selling of your data or your campaign's data.
- No tracking across other apps or websites.
TownStakes is not meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them.
Security
Access to campaign data is limited by each person's role in the campaign. Data is encrypted in transit between your device and our servers. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information.
Changes and contact
If we change this policy, we'll post the new version on this page and update the effective date at the top.
Questions or requests about your data: [CONTACT EMAIL].
